NBL Round 8 (Second Stage): #1 Nymburk is defeated by Opava

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Nymburk (26-2) on the court of seventh ranked Opava on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Opava 105-89. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Nymburk. Opava dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Nymburk's 30 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Nymburk 43-31 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Opava looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Isaiah Gray (190-2001, college: Akron) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists and the former international Jakub Slavik (199-1999) who added 25 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The former international Jaromir Bohacik (197-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Nymburk's coach Oren Amiel rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Opava (15-14) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Srsni Pisek. Defending champion Nymburk still keeps top position with two games lost. Opava is looking forward to face Srsni Pisek (#7) at home in the next round. Nymburk will play against Usti n/Labem (#4) in Usti nad Labem and is hoping to win this game.

Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nymburk have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 26-2 record. Opava at the other side dropped to the sixth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Srsni Pisek. Nymburk will play against Usti n/Labem (#4) in Usti nad Labem in the next round. Opava will play at home against Srsni Pisek and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The best player for the winners was Trey Bonham who scored 23 points and 9 rebounds. Jan Sterba produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pardubice maintains second position with 23-7 record having just one point less than leader Olomoucko. Loser Decin keeps the fifth place with 14 games lost. Pardubice will meet Brno (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Decin will play against NH Ostrava and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 8: bottom-ranked H.Kralove was destroyed by USK Praha on the opponent's court 81-60. NH Ostrava unfortunately lost to Usti n/Labem in a home game 87-91. Slavia recorded a loss to Olomoucko on the road 70-78. Brno defeated Srsni Pisek on its own court 90-85.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 11 points and 10 rebounds by Marcus Santos-Silva of Nymburk.



Decin - Pardubice 76-90

Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Usti n/Labem (17-12) defeated on the road 8th ranked NH Ostrava (10-20) 91-87 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American guard Nick Johnson (193, college: Winthrop) who scored 24 points and 8 rebounds. The former international point guard Tomas Vyoral (190-1992, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Five Usti n/Labem players scored in double figures. Australian swingman Elias Cato (206, college: Cent Arkansas) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and the former international forward Lukas Palyza (203-1989) added 17 points respectively for the hosts.
